One of the best men of the county, uncle Jimmie Thompson died at his home near Spring Hill Saturday night. He had long suffered with a cancer and last year thought he was cured by a treatment received in Georgia. Later it broke out again and finally caused his death. A good man is gone to his reward. ***Notes*** James R. Thompson was born 13 Jan. 1828 North Carolina, the son of Stephen and Penelope Thompson. The Thompsons moved to Pike County in the late 1830's. James married 1 March 1849 Pike County to Mary C. Lassiter, having two daughters: Malissia and Bernice Jane Thompson. He died 5 October 1895, being buried at the Union Springs Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery, Spring Hill, Alabama.
