D. Shanks, Physican 30 Years, Dies Dr. Edgar Dewitt Shanks, 64, physician here more than 30 years and editor of the Journal of the Medical Association of Georgia for 16 years died Thursday morning at his residence, 1431 Fairview Rd. N.E. Funeral services will be held a 2pm Saturday in Springhill Chapel. Dr. P. D. Miller will officiate. Burial will be in Westview Cemetery. Dr. Shanks, who retired in 1950, formerly served on the staffs of Georgia Baptist, St. Joseph and Crawford W. Long Hospitals. For many years he was on the teaching staff at Grady and in the Emory University Medical School. Dr. Shanks was a member of Phi Chi fraternity, the Fulton County Medicl Society, the Medical Association of Georgia and the American Medical Association. He served as president of the Fulton County Medical Society in 1935. Surviving are a daughter, Miss Zola Thomas Shanks; two sons, Dr. Edgar D. Shanks Jr.; three sisters, Mrs Mae S. Brantley and Mrs Joe W. Smith, Banks, Ala. and Mrs William W. Hatcher, Ft. Pierce, Fla.; a brother, James H. Shanks, St. Petersburg, Fla. and two grandchildren. Note: He married Zola Lucrecia Thomas. Zola was born in Buchanan, VA. Died Jan. 26 1948
