Although the retired school teacher was born in Holt, he had been a resident of Laurel Hill since 1932. Among the first educators in Okaloosa County, Mr. Fortune devoted 34 years as a teacher, and also eight years on the Okaloosa County School Board. Mr. Fortune had served as a deacon of the Baptist church for 37 years, and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Laurel Hill. Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Tuesday from the First Baptist Church in Laurel Hill with the Rev. Hershal C. Rutledge officiating. Interment will follow in the Ebenezer Cemetery near Laurel Hill. The remains will lie in state in the McLaughlin Funeral Home Chapel in Crestview and be moved to the church one hour prior to services. Mr. Fortune is survived by his widow, Mrs. Eunice R. Fortune; three sons, Johnny Fortune, of Fort Walton Beach, Jerry Fortune, of Sheffield, Tex., and Jackie Fortune of Knoxville, Tenn.; four brothers, Monroe Fortune, of Pensacola, Ed and Perry Fortune, both of Milton, and Thomas J. Fortune, of Crestview; two sisters, Mrs. Fannie Booker, of Pompano Beach and Mrs. Della Buckley, of Orlando; and 10 grandchildren.
