Grand River July 25th 1804 Sir Having received a letter from you wherein you mention that you are deserious that I should inform you reletive to the advantages which might arise from your branch of business (as a Butcher) in this country I am not acquainted with any person in this country who profits in that line of business as I live in the country –but I have since I received your favour made it my business to enquire and am informed that those who has followed that profession have had good success and am of opinion that it is a very advantageous business this is a vast (grass ?) country and the inhabitants are chiefly Canadians and do not follow the business to any great extent ---- ---- of Montreal I (approached ----- ---?) the best place for you to set up as the market is generaly high once a year that is in the last of the winter I have --- beef sold for sixpence halfpenny --- pound *You mention that you have been at the same school with me in Ireland I have some slight recognition of you but do not remember your countanence if it should be -------to you to follow your profession in this country, I should be very happy at all times to have it in my power to serve you I am with regard your --- hum. servant J Fortune *I am confident you were from the circumstances you mention **Notes** Bev has tried to transcribe the letters exactly as they were written.
